Company of Heroes - Resource Dependent Warfare

Company of Heroes is one of those resource dependent strategy games. It is set in World War 2 and covers the American army in Europe. I've not played the campaign game yet, but have fooled around with the skirmish mode.

The strategy aspect of the game is building a well balanced force that is capable of quickly grabbing and holding resource objectives that fuel your growth and help you build out your army.

if your army does not grab the munition and fuel objectives you will be prevented from adding armor, vehicles, support infantry, etc.

For the skirmish mode there is a scored resolution and an annihilation mode.

It's entertaining enough against the AI.

Gameplay video below:

I am not a huge fan of this kind of gaming, but it is a good way to kill an hour. You learn nothing about warfare or tactics other than the principles I mentioned above.

Update: Roughly 24 hours after I posted this, I had to the chance to play again. This time I commanded the American army on the Best map in a scored resolution skirmish. I built up my forces, occupied key points of ground and did not engage a large enemy force for over 15 minutes. Suddenly the AI attacked with 3-4 snipers and began picking off my infantry. Snipers continued to snipe me in alternating attacks on center and flanks, forcing me to give chase. Eventually I pushed into the enemy base area with a Sherman tank, an infantry squad and a heavy machine gun team. I kicked over a hornets nest and ended up falling to a swarm of German tanks. So much for mindless fun. AI 1 - Cocky Gamer 0.
